The Save Starry Skies specialty license plate lets Nevadans share their love of our dark skies while also helping to protect them. The plate is the brainchild of Friends of Nevada Wilderness. Advocates for wilderness since 1984, Friends entered the world of dark skies with the certification of Massacre Rim Wilderness Study Area as a Dark Sky Sanctuary by DarkSky International. Funding from the Save Starry Skies plate will grow this work through continued dark sky monitoring, education, and outreach. Funding will also be used to promote astro-tourism, supporting local efforts to upgrade lighting and infrastructure in order to attract stargazers.
